Discover Anchor

Anchor is a charismatic church that meets on Sundays at 10.30 am at Cashmere Bowling Club rooms, 12 Crichton Terrace, Cashmere. We are a member parish in the Church of Confessing Anglicans, Aotearoa New Zealand.

In a time when the underpinnings of Western life are teetering, we invite you to turn to God to find real hope and a new reality. The good news of Jesus Christ gives us hope in this life and the next.

Our Vision

The vision for Anchor was given to our Vicar, Rev. Andrew Allan-Johns in May 2018 while on a Camino pilgrimage to Santiago, Spain. Clearly asked by God to gather up charismatic Anglicans unable to stay in the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia (ACNZP), the call has been independently confirmed by scriptures such as, Isaiah 40:3 “prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight” and Jeremiah 4:3 “break up your unploughed ground and do not sow among thorns”.

Our Values

We are

  • Kingdom-focused expecting God to change the world around us.
  • Intentional about making disciples and mentoring its members.
  • Naturally supernatural.
  • Orthodox in belief and practice.
  • In-depth Bible teaching and preaching.
  • Inclusive in welcome, but traditional in teaching concerning human sexuality.
  • Anglican in sacraments and governance.
Anchored in Mission

Anchored in Mission

In the context of shrinking churches, a disconnect with the culture, and an undermining of the authority of The Bible, Anchor is laying fresh foundations in Christchurch for a charismatic church to make disciples of Jesus. Jesus’ Great Commission to us is to make disciples who will obey everything he commanded, so we’re strongly focussed on evangelism and making true disciples of Jesus – not just followers in the crowd. As a church, we’re beginning this intentional process with small groups and one on one spiritual mentoring.

As part of the global church, our mission extends overseas by supporting our vicar who also works for SOMA New Zealand (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) and chairs SOMA International.

We also support Samaritana Liberia and Gambia, working to counter sexual exploitation in West Africa. We support the suffering church through Barnabas Aid.

Our Vicar

Rev. Andrew Allan-Johns

A Christchurch native, Andrew was trained first in forestry science, then theology, alongside his wife, Christine. They were ordained in 1990. They have two sons and two grandchildren. Andrew enjoys pioneering new ministries and is also the National Director for Sharing of Ministries Abroad, New Zealand. This affords him regular travel on cross-cultural missions to equip Anglican leaders in the things of the Holy Spirit. He enjoys politics, the mountains, and anything with an engine.
